The school were struggling to get by in the limited space they had to prepare and serve food. Several solutions were proposed, but after consultation with the surveyor the decision was made to knock through to the small adjacent store in order to extend the kitchen at one end. This provided enough room to bring all the refrigeration down to one end and to create a new preparation area with additional storage.
The existing oven range was replaced with a new induction top oven range to reduce heat within the kitchen which had been highlighted as an issue. A new dishwasher arrangement was designed to utilise the new space, with the existing dishwasher being raised on a stand to minimise the need for bending during wash up. This project was a good example of how a small amount of additional area can make a big difference and the kitchen now really makes the most of all the space available.
